THOMAS WILLIAM HENDRICK CLARKE
1860–1945
Clarke was a member of the Midlands Fishing Club from 1904–1943 and President from 1913–1927. He was also Vice President of the Northern Tasmanian Fisheries Association from 1927–1943. He was made a Life Member of the Association in 1907 but much of his work was done after this date. His generosity knew no bounds, donating £478 ($956) every year between 1928–1938 for the importation of 100,000 rainbow ova from New Zealand for stocking purposes, most of which went to Lake Leake. The ova was reared to almost fingerling size at the Salmon Ponds and transported to Lake Leake where they were liberated among the shore grasses. He was a noted hunter and fisher and was credited with having one of the best game trophy rooms in the world.
