DONALD JOHN GILMOUR
1927–2005
Don began his angling journey at the age of twelve and was still involved until his premature death. It was during his working holidays that his flyfishing prowess was refined, especially during the famous “Shannon Rise”. Don joined the Northern Tasmanian Fisheries Association and in 1948 began a 26 year service as Secretary. He also served as Treasurer and President, culminating in Life Membership. He was a founding and Life Member of the Flyfishers Club of Tasmania and also an honoury Life Member of the Victorian Fly Fishers Association. Don chaired the Combined Anglers Association of Tasmania during its existence in the ’70s. In his later years, Don served on the Tasmanian Angling Hall of Fame and his historical knowledge was of immense value. Don wrote the Tasmanian Angling Report for forty-three years in addition to writing nine books of his own.
