SIR JAMES ARNDELL YOUL
1811–1904
Interested in shipping trout eggs to Tasmania, moved to England to initiate ideas, involved in four shipments (first three unsuccessful) and was person who developed methods of shipping ova over long distances with his icehouse set-up. Initiated the successful shipment in 1864 and brought out 100,000 salmon ova and 3000 trout ova. Awarded Gold Medal from La Societe d’Acclimatisation, France, Silver Medal from Acclimatisation Society if Victoria, and a Silver Trophy from Province of Otago, New Zealand.
