LESLIE ROBERT ‘BOB’ WARD

1929–2023

Bob was introduced to trout fishing in 1943. He joined the Bridgewater Anglers’ Association in 1952 and became a Committee member in 1970. He served the Committee for eighteen consecutive years before taking the role of Vice-President for the next nine years. He was a Club delegate and was President of the Southern Tasmanian Licensed Anglers’ Association from 1977 to 1979. Bob was awarded Life Membership of both the Bridgewater Club and the S.T.L.A.A. in 1987. Bob was involved in the formation of the Freshwater Anglers Council of Tasmania. In 1990 he became the Southern Associate Commissioner on the Inland Fisheries Commission and served in this position until it was dissolved in 1999. In later years he extended his time as a Bridgewater Committee member and was joint Patron from 2002 until 2023, and also Patron of the STLAA from 2004 until 2018.
