CHARLES HARRISON
1869–1945
Secretary of the Northern Tasmanian Fisheries Association from 1898–1924 achieving Life Membership in 1913. Assistant Secretary to the Fisheries Commissioners from 1902–1925. He was largely responsible for the transportation of ova, fry and fingerlings from the Salmon Ponds to the north of the State. In 1901 was influential in raising fifty pounds of public money to build the Waverley Hatchery. His detailed submission to the Commissioners realized the first collection of ova from Mountain Creek at Lake Sorell, which was done in a small shed. The hatchery run by “Father Cramp” was built in close proximity. Harrison was also instrumental in organizing the transportation of materials for the original Chudleigh Lakes Hut.
