REDVERS ALAN TERRY
1901–1980
Red is remembered for his commitment to the Southern Tasmanian Licensed Anglers’ Association where he served as President from 1949 to 1951 and again from 1957 to 1959. He held numerous other roles during 30 years of service and in 1967 was honoured with Life Membership. Red served as a Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Commissioner from 1953 until 1959 when the Inland Fisheries Commission was formed. He then became an Associate Commissioner, serving until 1964, this included a period as Chairman in 1963. Red spent a great deal of his time working in the field managing waters in the Nive River and Nineteen Lagoons areas, much of this work involved measuring water levels and water quality parameters. His devotion and leadership in fisheries management saw him recognised as one of Tasmania’s true angling gentlemen. Red will be remembered as a man determined to conserve and maintain the unique fishery and its environment.
