KEN ORR

A third generation fly-fisher, Ken has been a participant in, protector of and promoter for Tasmania’s recreational trout fishery for over six decades. Developing his passion for trout/fly-fishing from an early age, Ken has had a lifelong commitment to the sustainability of our state’s trout fishery. In 1979 Ken, along with the late Noel Jetson, established the Association known as TGALT Inc. for accredited guides. Over his angling lifetime Ken has attended, assisted and promoted numerous recreational angling activities, be they local, interstate or international — • Locally: IFS field days, Fly Tie-ins, Bushfest, numerous media and educational programmes; • Interstate: consumer angling/fishing shows, traditional & social media opportunities; • Overseas: Industry travel specialists presentations and demonstrations in USA, Japan, Hong Kong and elsewhere. Another major achievement was the key role he played in the fishery’s protection through a nationwide protocol in banning non-processed salmon entering Australia and getting Tasmania’s highest level of bio-security to maintain our disease-free aquatic environment.
